Rewires

Newcastle, Port Stephens & Hunter Valley

If you are living in an older home that is pre 1970, or you are considering purchasing an older home, you may require electrical rewiring work. This is due to the fact that your home may have wiring made from VIR or Vulcanised Indian Rubber. This type of wiring is known to break down inside steel conduits and cause short circuiting. If you see steel conduits in your roof space, the chances are you have VIR caballing and need it replaced.

It may not be obvious to you that your home needs to be rewired but there are some warning signs you can watch out for. If you have old ceramic fuses in you switch board, this is a telltale sign that you need electrical upgrading and that VIR wires have been used throughout your home. If you have recently had any powerpoints stop working all of a sudden, this could be a sign of faulty old wires.  Or if you have a fuse that keeps tripping without an obvious reason, this is another indication that you could have some faulty wiring and you should call an electrician to come investigate further. The main cause of electrical fires is faulty, old wiring that should have been replaced. For the safety of you and your family, you should have your wiring checked if you are experiencing any of the above problems.

New electrical wiring in your home should last you 40 – 50 years once installed. We do offer small rewiring repair jobs, but we normally recommend a full replacement of wires throughout the premises, as often a few problem wires can indicate a larger problem.  At Delta Electrical, we are happy to offer package deals to homeowners and business owners who require their whole premises to be rewired.

Depending on the size of the premises, electrical rewiring can take 1-2 days. You can expect for the power to be off during the project for 4 -5 hours each day. Customers are fine to stay at the premises during the project, but will have to do without power while the work is underway. We do our rewiring work in stages to avoid leaving our customers without power completely, and you can expect to have power to a portion of the premises outside of working hours.

Most rewiring work is done underneath the premises and in roofs so there is often little disturbance to the homeowner or business owner as work is completed. Our electricians conducting the rewiring work will still need to have access to the inside of your home or business in order to change and update powerpoints accordingly. We replace old electrical wiring with New Thermoplastic-sheathed cable (TPS).

Often commercial and retail spaces also require rewiring due to faulty, outdated wires causing electrical malfunctions. Faulty wires can lead to the breakdown of important equipment for maintaining your business. Faulty wiring can result in a loss of revenue for businesses, so we advise that business owners have their wiring checked by our electricians. If you are a business owner renting your space and there has been many tenants before you, we recommend ensuring your electrical wires are checked. For restaurant and cafe owners, it’s important ensure that commercial kitchens are equipped with weatherproof powerpoints and switches due to extended use. There are some regulations that dictate how close powerpoints can be to sinks, etc. in a commercial kitchen, so if you are unsure if you are abiding by regulations, it’s a good idea to check with our electricians.
